Aitken Spence Printing consists of two arms, one being Aitken Spence Printing & Packaging (Pvt) Ltd which caters to its prestigious local customers and the other being Ace Exports (Pvt) Ltd which serves all direct and indirect export customers.

 

Aitken Spence’s services thrive on modern, cutting-edge, and eco-friendly technology, ranging from pre-press to press to post-press. As a result, the Company’s product portfolio offers a diverse range of products to its customers, including printed cartons/boxes, apparel labels & tags, annual reports, coffee table books, magazines, gift & presentation boxes, brochures, leaflets, posters, and many more.

Established in 1868 by two British entrepreneurs Thomas Clark and Patrick Gordon Spence as a formal partnership, Aitken Spence PLC today is a leading conglomerate with substantial investments in Hotels, Travel & Destination Management, Airline GSA, Maritime & Port Services, Freight Forwarding, Clearing, Courier & Other Logistic Solutions, Plantations, Apparel Manufacturing, Power Generation, Printing & Packaging, Insurance, Financial Services, Property Management and other services including Elevator Agency, etc. with a global footprint. Aitken Spence Printing is a fully owned subsidiary of Aitken Spence PLC, its irrepressible spirit ensured the Company grew beyond borders, swiftly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the printing and packaging industry.

Commenced operations as an in-house print division of Clark & Spence & Company located in Galle.

1962
Moved Operations to Colombo with expansion into packaging & publications.

1985
Incorporated as Aitken Spence Printing (Pvt) Ltd at Vauxhall Street, Colombo 2.

1994
Installed 5-colour 40-inch press in Sri Lanka and relocated all operations at Bloemendhal Road.

1996
Installed second 5-colour press.

2006
First 6-colour 40-inch press installed at our factory.

2010
Installed fully automated bindery line.

2011
Obtained ISO 9001:2008 certification.

2012
Achieved Carbon Neutral statues.
Relocated to state-of-the-art purpose-built LEED Gold certified factory in Mawaramandiya, Siyambalape, Sri Lanka.
Another 6-color press installed in the new Facility.

Runner-up of Printing & related services sector at the National Business Excellence Awards

Awarded the Platinum Trophy and was named the overall winner at the Lanka Star Awards organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging in 2022 for winning the most number of awards which includes 04 Gold and 02 Silver awards in the Corporate categories

Mr. Deshantha Silva

Director / Chief Executive Officer’s Message

Since our humble beginnings in the southern city of Galle, Aitken Spence Printing has become synonymous with excellence in the printing & packaging industry, supported by decades-long partnerships with leading brands and companies both local and international. When it comes to offering service and quality of the highest international standards, there really is only one name that resonates today – Aitken Spence Printing & Packaging.

 

The Company offers state-of-the-art technology and innovation at very attractive and competitive prices with extremely short lead times, thereby delivering the end-product much faster than our competitors. Our new 100,000 square-foot factory complex situated in Mawaramandiya is one of the best laid-out factories in the island. It is a carbon-neutral and LEED Gold Certified facility, which practices numerous sustainability initiatives since we are conscious of the environmental impact of our operations.

 

Our parent company, Aitken Spence PLC is a public quoted company and one of the largest and most diversified conglomerates in the island with a presence in Sri Lanka and abroad. Our credentials are what render us a force to be reckoned with. All our expertise, which begins from our highly skilled staff to our state-of-the-art machinery results in our clients being provided with excellence, thereby gaining their trust and confidence.

 

 

Mr. Deshantha Silva 

 

Mr. Deshantha Silva joined the Aitken Spence Group on 1st July 2021, bringing with him over 24 years of diverse management experience across multiple industries in the manufacturing and service sectors. He serves Aitken Spence Group Management Council by heading the Printing & Packaging segment in the Strategic Investment sector of Aitken Spence Group. His manufacturing industry exposure includes apparel, furniture, electrical switchgear, and printing & packaging industries. He formally held Chief Executive Officer positions at Finco Trading (Private) Limited, The Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC, ACME Printing & Packaging PLC, and Alpha Industries Ltd.

Mr. Silva is a qualified engineer graduated from the University of Moratuwa and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Colombo. Mr. Silva is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in the UK, an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in the UK, and an Associate of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) in the UK. He is also a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (CMA) in Sri Lanka, the Institute of Chartered Professional Managers in Sri Lanka (CPM), the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) in Australia, and a Chartered Global Management Accountant.

He was a director of the Association of Laminated Flexible Packaging Manufacturers (ALFPM) for many years and is currently a member of the Governing Body of the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging (SLIP) and an EXCO member of the Sri Lanka Association of Printers (SLAP).
